Kennel History

Welcome to Sleek Kennels.  Home of the Bull Terrier (Miniature) in New Zealand.

A little history.
I acquired my first dog in 1989.  She was a BYB, SPCA reject Dobermann named Kim.  Kim was 14 months old and in desperate need of a new home.  Her previous owners could no longer look after her due to personal reasons.  The SPCA officer explained to me that Kim would be the perfect pet - obedient, quiet, easily trainable and would eat anything. She did eat everything.   But she never did obtain any semblance of obedience, barked compulsively and was extremely dog aggressive.  Kim passed away at 11.5 years old.   A good age for a dopey Dobe.

In 1994 I purchased my own home and decided that I wanted to show dogs.  I purchased an eight week old red Dobermann male named Hollie-Grove Irish Cream. Kim and Bailey became firm friends till the end.  While being a pretty reasonable example of a Dobermann, it still took me 50 shows to make him a champion.  But I was hooked!  Bailey was PTS due to cancer in 2004.

In 1998, I decided that another dog was in order.  Realising that Dobermann's really weren't my cup of tea I decided to go for something quieter and less intelligent and purchased my first Bull Terrier – Boromir Equisimint. Queen quickly became a champion.  She loved showing and while she did have her faults, she caught the judges eye more often than not.  In 2000 I bred my first litter.  Queen produced 6 puppies.

In 2001 I was given Boromir Chain Reaction.
Chino never did make it as a show dog and enjoys his life as a pet, with the occasional sojourn in Ribbon Parades.

In 2002 I purchased Harlequin Black Rose, a litter sister to Boromir Exquisimint.  Rosie did make it to a champion, but had none of her sisters panache.  In fact the best description of Rosie would be "special!"  What Rosie lacked in personality, she made up for with her quiet and loving nature.

Boromir Witches Brew came along not long after Rosie and somehow ended up staying.  Being another fine example of a Bull Terrier bred by Boromir Kennels, she took no time in becoming a champion.   Aura has produced some very fine puppies and is now retired and will live out her life here with her mate
Chino.

In 2005 I had the opportunity to import 3 Bull Terrier (Miniature) into NZ.  I jumped at the chance.  Bitches Gemmology Uhu Midge (Midge) and Amatol Minime (Mouse) arrived first, followed by stud dog Aust. Ch. Gemmology Gest Obvious (Raalik).  All three quickly became NZ champions.  In 2006 I bred both bitches to Raalik.  On 31st August Mouse produced 4 lovely babies, and on December 4th Midge produced two.  These are the first mini bull puppies to be born in
New Zealand since 1996.

In 2008 I bred the first litter of interbred Miniatures to be registered in New Zealand.  Amatol Minime produced two puppies when bred to the Bull Terrier Bullistik Blazing Inferno.  The bitch puppy from this litter Banderbear Of Sleek will shown around the North Island.
